BrightStar CU encourages members to take several steps
in protecting your personal information.

Protect your access codes.
Never share your access codes (personal identification numbers or
passwords) with others. It's also a good idea to change your access
codes on a regular basis. If you think your access codes have been
compromised, change them and contact us immediately.
Use a firewall.
Consider using a personal firewall to prevent hackers from invading
the computers that you use, especially if you are using DSL or a
cable modem to access the Internet.
Protect your computer from viruses.
Install virus protection software and keep it updated. Periodically
scan your computer and scan all downloaded software or new files
before use. Also, be wary of emails with attachments from unknown
sources.
Use secure online connections.
Do not provide your personal confidential information (such as your
account numbers, social security number, etc.) when it is not safe
and secure to do so. Be sure you know that the company to whom you
are sending information is reputable. Email is generally not secure.
So never send personal confidential information using email.
When contacting us online, use the secure applications and forms
that we provide on our website. Our site uses Secure Sockets Layer
(SSL) encryption technology to secretly encode the information sent
between your computer and the Credit Union. The use of SSL requires
that you have an SSL compatible browser. A secure connection is
normally indicated by an "https:" (instead of "http:") in your browser's
URL address bar in front of the address of the page you are visiting
and a secure symbol (such as closed padlock or key) on the status
bar of your browser located on the lower part of the screen.
When you are done with your transactions, always log off or sign
out to exit the application and prevent further access to your account,
especially when using a public PC (such as in a library or school).
Also, close the browser when you are finished. A timeout feature
is used on selected parts of our website. This feature automatically
logs you out of your account after an extended period of time. Re-authenticating
your credentials for your online session helps to reduce unauthorized
access to your accounts with us.
We suggest the following browsers: Internet Explorer 6.0 or greater
or Netscape Navigator 7.0 or greater. For more information on browser
features and how to download a more secure version of your browser,
click on one of the browser logos below.
